The life of Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs was brought-up by a lower-middle-class couple, Paul and Clara Jobs, who soon moved to Santa Clara County which happened to become the Silicon Valley in the fifties.

In his younger days, Steve´s neighborhood was surrounded with engineers and electronic enthusiasts that were dreaming of being a part of the new technology companies around. Certainly this made a huge impact in his personal development.

Born in San Francisco on February 4th 1955 from an unmarried couple, he was given for adoption. He was 13, when he met one of the most important persons in his life, his best friend Stephen Wozniak, who later in life he would make history with.

He enrolled in Reed College, but life took Steve through another path, as he only attended one semester at Reed´s and dropped-out. He decided to move to a hippie community in Oregon harvesting apples. Prophetic!

Steve then returned home and was hired by Atari, a video games company. He saved money and traveled to India to pursue one of his dreams. Jobs returned to his hometown and continued his friendship with Wozkiak.

Woz, as Steve used to call him, had been developing lots of information and software at a computer club where enthusiasts of technology gathered around to share their accomplishments.

This was the magic moment when Steve talked Woz into creating their new company and named it Apple Computer.  It was on April 1st 1976. Their major success was just about to happen.

Still working at Job´s garage, Apple I and Apple II were born thanks to Mike Markkula´s investment who believed in their project. Who would think that Apple II was to be mentioned as a grand success in the Fortunes 500 after two years!

The company became public in December 1980, after four years of its foundation. Steve was 25 years old by then and his net worth was $200 million dollars.

During the turmoil of Apple II, Steve Jobs became a father of little Lisa, daughter of Chrisann Brennan, his ex-girlfriend from high school. He named his next computer after her, but he denied any parental relationship. Steve later married in 1991 to Laurene Powell and had a son named Reed.

Steve Jobs later years

For the upcoming years, life took him back and forth into Apple Inc. He was rehired in 1983 and kicked out again in May 1985. He succeeded with the creation of the Next Machine, Next Cube and Next Station.

In 1986 he bought a small computer scientist company and named it Pixar. Disney Enterprises signed an agreement to produce a movie with Pixar in 1991, the legendary Toy Story. It was one of the biggest momentums of his life.

2001 was a great year for Steve, the launching of iApps DVD, iTunes and iWeb became a prelude for the iPod, a worldwide success. The following years other meaningful launches continue to happen like iTunes music Store in 2003 and iPod mini in 2004.

By 2005, Apple's retail stores were making big numbers, and again, the launching of the iPhone in 2007 was a total disruption for the traditional telephone business, creating a supreme item that would perform as “an iPod, a Phone and an Internet communicator” a three in one device.

Steve was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late 2003. After his surgery in 2004 he claimed to be cured, but in the summer of 2009, he returned to Apple after a liver transplant, and was then months away from his death.

His last public appearance was in June 2011 He resigned as Apple CEO on August 24th, 2011. He passed away on October 5th, 2011.

A dedication

“We are here to put a dent in the Universe, otherwise why else even be here?”
