Hard shell, soft core - the melancholic cancer is influenced by the moon and belongs to the element of water. This stands for life, wisdom and endurance. Just as the moon affects the tides, it can also greatly change the moods of the cancer.
The Cancer is a very inscrutable sign of the Zodiac - there are both very shy and withdrawn as well as very cheerful and extroverted characters. Basically, however, it is more conservative and of a domestic nature, which is not to say that it is unsociable. Externally, the Cancer may appear partly emotionless, persistent, dismissive and uncompromising due to its thick skin. Internally, however, it has an intuitive, sometimes philosophical depth in its thoughts, so that its sudden inspiration makes it seem undefinable. To familiar people, the Cancer shows its friendly and sympathetic sensitivity. Its empathy makes it easier to identify itself with the situation of other people and to assist them. Often, however, the Cancer is not that independent and therefore it has a great need for a reference. It is torn between a life with lots of movement and the security of a tight fit in a big family.
In personal relationships, the Cancer is a mixture of hardness and softness, persistent and loyal, in familiarity emotional and romantic. Its loyalty goes to its family and spouse, because there it sees itself as a protector. Particularly well the Cancer gets along with the zodiacal signs Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio and Pisces.
In the case of the Taurus, the Cancer meets a likewise rather domestic character, who, while enjoying the company of others, feels also very comfortable in its own home. Due to the down-to-earthness, the Taurus is often comfortable and very sociable, which is very accommodating to the Cancer. Both unfold in a familiar environment. The sense of order and security unites the two signs of the Zodiac.
The Virgo and the Cancer can learn a lot from each other. Although the Cancer seems very closed at first glance, it opens devotedly to its confidants. The Virgo still lacks this a little bit, because she often cannot express her feelings due to her very decent nature. Cancer, on the other hand, benefits from the structure of the Virgin, to which it can lean against.
With the Scorpio the Cancer meets another sign of the Zodiac with the element of water. They are aware of their own emotions and can understand the behavior of the other very well. Overall, the Scorpion is more assertive and can support the Cancer very well.
The Pisces dream of love as much as the Cancer. Once the two have found each other, they will not leave each other. With the Pisces, the Cancer can dream, imagine its future, let its feelings run wild and recognize the affection of the partner again and again. In their conceptions, the two signs of the Zodiac are very similar, which makes them blend into a perfect pair.
In Greek mythology, the Cancer appears rather as a secondary character. Thus, it is associated with a heroic act of Hercules: During a battle against the multi-headed Hydra, the Goddess Hera sent a crab because she hated her illegitimate stepson Hercules. The crab tried to kill Hercules but failed miserably. In gratitude for the try, Hera sent the Cancer to heaven, but as it could not fulfill its task, it does not shine as brightly as the other constellations today.
Cancer is an inconspicuous astrological sign of the Zodiac and is located in the constellation of the same name. In the tropical zodiac, the sun passes through this area between the 22nd of June and the 22nd of July each year. In sidereal astrology, the sun wanders through the constellation from July 21st to August 10th. The stars of the Cancer form an Y, which is the other way around.
